Day 18 - Morning Check-In

I am really happy I've made it to day 18. When I first started this new diet, I honestly doubted if I would make it a week. All of my previous diets failed so quickly, not because they didn't work but because I just couldn't control myself. The difference between this diet and those is that this is starting to feel less and less like a diet. Most of the food I eat I was already eating, I just modified them a bit. For example, Subway sandwiches, now I order mine without mayo. Instead of adding heaps of butter to my food, I either add a little of my low fat butter spread or nothing at all. Instead of snacking on candy and chips I snack on fruits, veggies, and pretzels. I am actually eating more than I used to. Before this diet, I would almost always skip breakfast, eat a super late lunch or skip lunch all together and be famished by dinner time. I would eat around 50% sweets, 48% protein and carbs, and 2% fruits and veggies. Now, I eat 50% fruits and veggies, 24% carbs, 24% protein, and 2% sweets.

Today is Friday, the day I work at my office all day. This isn't a typical gym day but my assistant is on vacation today so I could essentially come in later if I wanted to go to the gym first. I have a lot of work to do so I could go to work, try to finish by 4pm, and then go to the gym for an hour or so. Id rather work out in the a.m. but I'd need to bust my ass to get to the gym as early as possible. Hmm...I'll figure it out.

For breakfast today I had the usual. For snack today I'll have the same ones I did yesterday. For lunch I'll get a Subway sandwich if I go to the gym or a microwave meal if I'm at my office. I'm not sure what I'll do for dinner...maybe tacos or a lean steak. I'm kinda tired of chicken and since I don't eat seafood (of any kind), goat, duck, and very little pork, the only other option is beef. I do like turkey but usually only cook that at Thanksgiving. My kids have been having a ton of fun trying new recipes so I'm going to look up some new ones today and see what I come up with. Oh, I just had an idea. Print out a bunch of new recipes, fold them up, put them in a bowl, and have the kids take turns picking one from the bowl each day (in the morning). They would LOVE that. It's all about making eating healthy fun, right? :)

Today's goals: Find 5-10 new recipes to print out for the new "pick a recipe out of a bowl" plan for the kids.

Also, my goal from yesterday: join a fitness group.

Bonus goal: finish blog post about "rewards".

Good luck today everyone!!
